Jonathan Veitch is the current president of Occidental College. He has been the president of Occidental College ever since July 2009. Occidental College is a two-year liberal arts college. Many notable people have attended this college, including president Barack Obama. Before Jonathan became the president of Occidental College, he was the dean of the New School’s Eugene Lang College.
Veitch grew up in Los Angeles, California and was educated at Loyola High School. After high school, he attended Stanford University where he earned his bachelor’s degree. Veitch decided to continue his education after college and was awarded a doctoral degree in American history from Harvard University. Veitch taught at the University of Wisconsin after he earned his doctorate degree. He was an associate professor of history and literature.
Veitch has made a major impact on Occidental College ever since he became the president. He has worked hard to improve relations between the surrounding community and college. In 2013, he unveiled the megawatt solar ray, which helps the campus generate solar energy. When Vietch first took the position as president, he stated that one of his goals was to boost Occidental College’s engagement in the city. He has attained that goal and is still working hard to improve the college.
Veitch is a member of a famous family. His step-grandfather is Alan Ladd, who is an actor. His father, John Veitch, was the president of Columbia Pictures Worldwide Productions.
Not only is Veitch the president of Occidental College and former dean, but he also has published author on his resume. He is the author of a book called American Superrealism: National West and The Politics Of Representation in the 1930s. Nineteenth and 20th century cultural history and American literature are Veitch’s areas of acadmemic specialization. Veitch is currently doing research on the history of higher education in the United States.
