Rent in B'ham these days

by magentashadow@[EMAIL PROTECTED] (Terry McCombs) Jun 16, 2007 at 09:11 PM

I have just spent an exhausting day apartment hunting in Birmingham and
what the heck has gotten into rental companies these days?

It's been 4 years since Ihave had to go apartment hunting and the rents
have gone insane.

Four years ago you could get a small apartment for around 350.00, which
was just barely what the one I'm in was worth. each year I have had to
pay more, and am now at 375.00.

The owners (the 9th to own the ones I'm in at the moment in just 5
months who seem to be tossing them around like a hot potato!) of the
complex I'm in now are asking new renters for 495.00! And some months
they don't even pay the trash pick-up for a week or two.

As soon as my lease is up in August I'm sure mine will go up as well.

So I've been looking around, I just can not belive the prices they are
demanding for some of the rat holes I am seeing.

And what's with all the homes for sell that I saw while looking? Some
streets must have close to 1/3 or more of all the homes on it up for
sell.

Where are these people going to?

I smell a housing crash coming.

Aaaaaaanyway...... thanks for the space to vent.

Terry
