It's official. I'm a Rev!
I received an email a couple of weeks ago that started out:
> Dear Rev. Crispen,
So you two (who have snuffled in frightened disdain of my styling
myself "Rev.") are voices crying in the wilderness against the great
locomotive of theological energy -- the very Stark Fist of Removal
itself! -- coming down the tracks to smite the complacent and pink.
You just *think* you fear the wrath of the almighty now!
The email went on:
> As a member of the blogosphere, you play an increasingly im****tant
> role in this conversation, and your attendance is welcomed. For
> more information or to register for the Symposium, visit
> http://www.HarmoniesofLiberty.org

> The Harmonies of Liberty Society is a non-partisan, ideologically
> diverse coalition of law students at the University of Alabama
> dedicated to advancing constructive discussion of crucial issues
> facing the State of Alabama
Since addressing someone as "Rev. Smith" is not the done thing, I'd
be disposed against attending even if I were able, but the list of
speakers is interesting. While not *actually* representing the wide
variety of ideas in Alabama today (it's more a Southern
conservative's idea of theological and ideological diversity) there
might still be some lively discussion.
That was really snarkier than I meant it to be. Obviously bringing
people together and seeking common ground is doing God's work, and
they should be given credit for having enough bravery to step aside
from the right wingers' and cor****ate media's firehose smearing of
everybody but themselves as nonbelievers.
So I wish them well. Perhaps some of you may be reverendial enough
to attend.
