Lee,
It's good to hear from you. Rose and I were just talking about y'all and
wondering if you would ever really consider coming back here. Rose says
she
will believe it when she sees you coming through our front door. She gets
as
fed up as you do with the way things are here sometime. Like you wrote,
Alabama is one backward place. And the politicians sure go out of their
way
to keep it that way. The newspapers are always talking about the hogs at
the
public trough.
Uncle Charlie has been a real blessing all right enough. If it wasn't for
him being on the inside, I doubt I could have ever got on at the plant.
But
I know that if anything ever happens and I lose my job, it's for sure I
won't
go right out and find another one very quick or easy. Like you said one
time
before, these personnel people just don't seem to want boys like us
anymore.
Having college degrees and experience don't matter anymore either. I ran
into Bobby Seldon the other day down at the Quickstop and we got to
talking.
He had to take a night ****ft job cause that was all they would offer him.
And you know how smart he was when we was all in school. Plus like you he
finished down at Auburn and I believe he may have gone on and got his
master's.
We got the word last Friday that Wendell got shot in Iraq. His unit was
due
to come back home in another month. He was riding in a convoy and it got
ambushed. He's being sent down to Fort Benning and Aunt Tallie says he may
be coming home soon. I don't know all the details about how badly he was
wounded, but he's alive. You said it before and it's true; this Iraq thing
is beginning to look a lot like Vietnam.
Rose and I really miss y'all, and we're looking forward to seeing you real
soon. We're not going to give up trying to get you moved over here either.
We still remember those days when we were all together and how great it
was.
Rose was talking to her Aunt Bessie last Sunday at church and they were
laughing about that time you and Bobby got caught in Mr. Forsyth's
watermelon patch.
Let us know when you can come over for a stay. Turkey season has opened,
and
I know you'll be wanting to go out some. You remember how good those woods
are over at Daddy's. We've been seeing deer and turkeys all through the
fall
and winter. Robert said he saw an eight point the other day down next to
the
creek.
Better go for now. Rose is calling us to supper. Take it easy.
Bubba
