The Incumbent Advantage
"BRIBERY" is the offering, giving, receiving, or soliciting of any thing
of
value to influence action as an official or in discharge of legal or
public
duty. A gift bestowed to influence the conduct of the receiver.
Alabama Legislators have set themselves up a Discretionary {Slush} Fund,
under the color of law, for their availability to pay for "Special County
Projects" in their Districts. Incumbent Senators and Representatives of
Alabama are very good at taking the credit for all these different
projects
they have gifted during their Term in Office. The "Slush Fund" brings
media
attention and notoriety. Then the Incumbents wave their shingle by calling
this to the attention of voters, "Look what I have done for you"! Voters
are just over whelmed with such gratitude for these Incumbents thinking
without whom these special projects just could not have been accomplished.
Isn't there something wrong with this picture? Government does not
produce
any thing. In the first place it is your money they are just giving back
to
you. This amounts to nothing more than Bribery, - A gift bestowed to
influence the vote of the receiver. What a great way for all Incumbent
Legislators to get re-elected. Just bribe Voters for their votes with
money
the State should not have taken from the Voters in the first place.
The Discretionary Funds have met with fraud and abuse under the
controlling
power of one person in each District. In my opinion this practice of
Legislators to buy votes is illegal, it is criminal, it is a felony, and
it
is malfeasance in office and should be alleviated post haste. Judge
Napolitano says it best, "The Government Is Not Your Friend". A bribe
will
not buy my vote.
