Ebay - No Friend to the Consumer

by Gary KW4Z <kw4z@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Oct 5, 2007 at 08:41 AM

I have used eBay before and had good luck and also was taken by a con for
some $32.00 years ago who took my money and never sent the items and of
course eBay never would reimburse me for the loss. This time I was
smarter
and more careful.

In an attempt to purchase a big ticket item I won an auction but the
seller
changed the terms of the auction by changing the only listed payment
method
from PayPal (an eBay system) to a direct deposit into a foreign bank. Yep
red flags were a waving. Anyway also I was contacted by another eBay
member
who was robbed of $1200 by this same person I was now dealing with by
virtue
of winning the auction. I contacted eBay and explained everything, eBay
also agreed that the seller changed the terms of the auction and had not
listed direct bank deposit as a method of payment. Further eBay continued
with this any win of an auction is a binding contract therefore I should
contact the seller and make the payment anyway. Oh yeah if it is a scam
eBay is not responsible and of course will not return my money.

I'm not the brightest bulb on the string but folks you are on your own and
at risk when you deal with eBay for anything. They are not interested in
helping legitimate people and they foster an environment that thieves can
readily change names and id's and con people who eBay is very slow at
helping if at all.

There are good deals to be had and eBay is a great way to find very hard
to
locate items or sell items to a wide variety of people but their sup****t
system is among the worst and their help or protection is almost
non-existent in my opinion.

I'm not out any money, this time, but I did take a hit on my feedback when
the thief was allowed to post negative feedback even after I had proof
that
they changed the terms of the auction I won, after the auction closed, and
could provide names to eBay of other eBay customers that this same person
had defrauded in the past. Ebay would not pull this thieves negative
rating
but allowed it to remain which in my opinion actually benefits folks that
are unscrupulous.

Again just wanted to share information that most anyone already knows but
maybe not everyone so I wanted to get the word out. I will, in fairness
to
eBay, update you all if they do end up pulling this fraud's negative
feedback or if they make any additional moves that I consider are worth
advising you of.
