Can you believe it? I couldn't and was amazed.

by Gary KW4Z <kw4z@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Jan 24, 2008 at 02:14 PM

Join the HD revolution I thought since with most programming today I'm
seeing two horizontal black bars above and below my picture I knew that a
traditional 32 inch set was far less than that with today's broadcasting
much less when the 2009 full conversion to Digital comes.

While shopping in Office Depot I noticed a brand that I have seen a lot of
but still was fairly unfamiliar with, called Olevia. I remember, many
years
ago, working for a company called Zayers, long gone, but was like K-Mart
and
before WalMart ever thought of a super store. I worked in the electronics
department, in Chattanooga, Tennessee and remember, what I thought was, a
cheap brand of TV Priced fairly well. Then RCA, Magnavox and Zenith were
"top shelf" brands and this new comer was "Curtis Mathis" but was before
you
ever heard of them through advertising. I know I was impressed with the 5
year warranty which was, then, unheard of. Several years later Curtis
Mathis went mainstream with nationwide advertising and the promise that
you
could not buy a better TV. During those years my parents purchased one
and
you know what it outlasted all the others and kept it's quality and
dependability. Even 20 years later the picture was tremendous but then
there was no remote control and you walked to the TV to change channels
and
with that only had three to choose from (ABC, NBC, & CBS).

All that was said just to say that just because you don't recognize the
brand name doesn't mean it's cheap or an insignificant offering. Once I
turned it on I loved the quality of the picture and the 42 inch screen
actually makes our bedroom feel like a theater now. Just today I decided
to
see just where my TV came from, was assembled, manufactured that is. I
thought no way it will be Japan, as I'm still a big fan of Japanese
products. My bet, had I bet with someone, would certainly be China,
either mainland, Taiwan, or Hong Kong. Then I thought maybe Mexico for
there still is some cheap labor there from workers that haven't yet
crossed
over the border. With my trusty Streamlight, flashlight, in hand I moved
the TV to where I could view the tag information, on the back, and the
wife
could have knocked me over with a feather. ASSEMBLED IN USA!. No way!
Okay I admit most likely parts in China but finally something that has "IN
USA" on it again and something Electronics at that. The price was $350.00
off at Office Depot, cheaper than Amazon.com even and my smile was even
wider knowing that I had something that helped add to our own countries
economy or at least helped out an American Worker (or Illegal Allen) but
none the less Assembled here in the Good ole USA.

At least I know my heart is safe from another shock though because I can
actually remember WalMart's slogan or banner stating "Made in the USA" and
they really tried to promote Made in the USA items over everything else
and
first and foremost. Today if I see 3 out of 10 items made in America, for
sale at WalMart, then the ticker is in for a shock. See I'm still safe on
that front but hey is there now a glimmer of hope given I find an
electronics component actually proudly stating "Assembled in the USA"?
