Gary, the definition of Socialism seems to be in the eye and intent of
the individual. Most of those in this group who are always calling
something Socialism are those who only sup****t government programs they
benefit from and are opposed to anything which benefits anyone else
irregardless of the merits.
My definition of Socialism is government stepping in and doing something
which will benefit Society as a whole but isn't being done by private
enterprise such as health care in the USA.
Those who work for a government which uses taxpayer money to pay their
salaries and health benefits are against the government getting involved
in anyone else's health care, other than their own.
Likewise people working in private industry which is usually involved in
a monopoly type business like Utilities, Auto industry, Railroad, or
other such industries are against any government involvement in Health
care or other programs.
You might say it's I've got mine and screw the rest of you.
This immediately changes when they have an unforeseen misfortune such as
losing money in the stock market which threatens their own retirement or
natural disasters which destroys their homes.
My definition of Communism is it's the greatest form of government on
paper but really doesn't work well in the real world. Only Kidding:).
I look at Communism as a form of stringent levels of dictator****p which
work down to the community level. At every level there is an individual
who has control and gets his orders from the next higher level.
If the peons don't follow the orders the troops come in and make sure
they don't make that mistake again. There is no adjustment when things
don't work because it might reflect badly on the leaders. This leads to
disasters of untold magnitude.
The current version of American Democracy is based on some of the above
with GREED being the ultimate consideration.
About 30 years ago the census bureau with direction, I believe from
Congress, started a disastrous policy which is partly responsible for the
current Immigration mess and people with foreign accents serving as head
of US immigration and Attorney General of the Justice department.
That policy was to start adding ghost immigrants to the census of large
US cities.
The number of Congressional members each state has in Congress is based
upon the Census, yep that's right. So what has happened is as these
census figures became bloated with ghost illegal immigrants who were
never counted which was the law, the states who sup****ted this criminal
act got several additional Congressional members and more power to do
even more of the same. Many people and evidently a lot of the media
either don't understand this or simply don't want to tell what has
happened.
This is why you have cities in the Northern US advertising themselves as
sanctuaries for illegals who openly break US law and enter the US.
With government officials, States, and Cities promoting and profiting
politically from these acts which escape most Americans, who seem to get
more ignorant every generation. We are rapidly approaching a point of no
return as a unified nation.
As I have said before be careful what you vote for as you may get it.
The free lunch tax cut scheme which works because of ignorance has given
us huge deficits and long recessions under both Reagan and Bush and we
now have seen the Federal Reserve interest rate policies under Bush in
the face of rising inflation result in the dollar being de-valued in
relation to Foreign currencies.
For those of you who love tax cuts but don't understand what de-valuation
of the dollar means, it means that the price of oil increased for
Americans while it went down for every European country because oil is
traded in dollars. Welcome to reality.
A 10% de-valuation of the dollar means you lose that amount of purchasing
power on im****ted products which make up a large ****tion of what we buy.
Unfortunately most Americans can no longer add and subtract so I'm sure
we will hear about more tax cuts in the future.
To show how absurd and unfair these tax cuts were, about 80% has gone to
the wealthiest who needed no assistance from the government.
The difference to an individual who has 100,000 dollars in life savings
and depends on this as part of their living, is their monthly dividends
went from $500 a month at 5% interest to $200 a month at the current 2%
rate.
This rate savings loss went to the Wall Street Con Artists and Big
Cor****ations who now get cheap money to use for their next scam. Many of
these CEO's and Big Cor****ations were involved in the current crisis.
Their CEO's who make millions a year, and give huge bonuses to their
board members and employees now enjoy the Bush version of Robin hood and
his merry men.
A lot of these people voted for the tax cut rhetoric so you might say
they are getting what they voted for.
Combine this with the 20% rise in groceries and 75cents a gallon gas
price increase the last year alone with no end in sight and you see what
Greed does in the long term.
