As a non-smoker I know my opinion is biased from the start but as a freedom
loving American I don't want to see an over burden big brother in our
Government. That said I would like to see Alabama adopt a similar ruling
to
that found in Florida and Georgia and several other states banning smoking
from restaurants. Bars can still allow smoking if and only if they don't
employ anyone under 18 and limit access to those 18 or older. Some places
it's 21 or older but I feel if you are old enough to fight for our country
and die for our country then you are old enough to be considered an adult
in
every way.
The sectioning of smoking and non-smoking areas seldom works as unless
there
is extremely good air filtering control those in non-smoking still smell
and
eat a portion of the smokers smoke. Restaurants are the only place, other
than very limited, confined, spaces to restrict smoking but I do feel it
should be a state law and not a local ordinance. The difference is most
noticeable say in going from a Waffle House in Alabama to another Waffle
House in Georgia or Florida. I say this mainly because of the health
aspects as I do believe first and second hand smoke is dangerous and that
isn't not just a comfort issue.
