Haven't you ever wondered why there is so much junk mail, selling junk
products in a seemingly never-ending stream of garbage clogging up your
email?
The innocuous SPAM is not just an aggravation. Although some can contain
viruses, there is a reason for such an over-abundance and it has very
little
to do with selling crap to unsuspecting victims. The headers contain
beacons.
Even without downloading or reading them, SPAM is designed to identify
your
specific computer in an attempt to expropriate your IP address and or
disrupt your connectivity and or appropriate personal information.
The most vulnerable connections are "always on" high-speed cable. SHAW
cable
subscribers are the most vulnerable and are hijacked most often. You will
find an inordinate amount of probes originating from the 24.64.xx.xx IP
range. It's not coincidence nor are the majority of spammers members of
SHAW. They have been expropriated for malicious intent.
Other high-speed connections are also valued but more difficult to steal.
The process usually involves cra****ng your machine into a "hang" state
forcing you to reboot with a series of 5 ping variations. When the OS
returns, the malicious code already loaded on your system is designed to
prevent your IP from renewing from your server. It imitates a static IP
just
the same as an "always on" connection.
Inspect your IP address often and if necessary manually change it. These
people are not "script kiddies". They are professional hackers involved in
a
movement which they have justified under religious premise.
Pay attention. Put these freaks out of business! Foil their plans for
hegemony.
