Social Workers Pay Tribute to Cuban Heroine
Havana, Jan 11 (acn) Social workers from the 169 Cuban municipalities
paid tribute on Thursday to Celia Sanchez Manduley, Heroine of the
Cuban Revolution, commemorating the 28th anniversary of her death.
During the ceremony, participants sang songs, read poems and laid a
wreath by a bronze sculpture dedicated to Celia at the Lenin Park in
Havana.
Ariel Fonseca, head of the program of social workers in Granma
province, recalled that since the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in
1959, Celia was also paying attention to and taking care of the needs
of children, women, farmers and workers.
He added that Celia is an example to be followed in order to continue
working with dedication and sacrifices for the development of our
nation and to honor her memory.
This ceremony also served as inauguration for the national meeting of
Heads of Social Workers at the municipal and provincial levels that
takes place until Saturday in Havana to analyze the work done in 2007
and discuss the plan of actions for 2008.
