The problem with Macs are the limited library of
software. For example, the top selling Word
processors (MS Word, Lotus AmiPro, Corel
WordPerfect) are not made for the Mac, so if you
need to write a re****t or a letter, you are SOL. You
cant get a decent word processor for the Mac.
CSUS eventually dumped all their Macs, in the
two Mac labs they had, and replaced them with
Windows machines, back in 1998. That is becuase
the commitee, of the time, that decided what software
and hardware to use, decided that all UCCS labs
would be Windows-only, and Macs were officially
abolished back in 1998, simply because they decided
that the software that college students used did not
justify mantaining a Mac lab, so the Macs were replaced
with IBM workstation computers that ran Windows.
As I have said before, one lab that had SunOS
machines had Windows emulation, because about
3 or 4 courses used Pascal, and Turbo Pascal was
used, becuase there was no decent Pascal compiler
available for SunOS systems.
