This is not about 'equal rights'; it's about recruitment. For shame!!

Mock weddings, drag shows and workshops on trans***uality among events
planned for students as young as 14 in same-*** marriage campaign

The San Francisco-based Gay-Straight Alliance Network is urging its clubs
on
high school and middle school campuses across California to "get active
and
get engaged" in the 11th annual Freedom to Marry Week.

The Jan. 30 GSA Network News encouraged students to join the nationwide
event, which begins today and runs through Feb. 16, because "a fundamental

human right -- the right to marry those whom we love -- is denied to LGBT
people." Among the "more than 1000 rights and benefits [that] come with
legal marriage, but are currently denied to LGBT people" is "the right to
provide two legally recognized parents for our children," said the News.

"Freedom to Marry Week is a time for GSAs to celebrate and share stories,
reflect on the values of equality and love, while also engaging our peers
in
the movement for equality and fairness," said the News. Besides adding
their
"perspective and voices as youth to the dialogues happening both within
and
around the marriage equality movement," GSAs can engage in other
consciousness raising activities, said the News.

These activities include staging mock weddings. "Get everyone's attention
by
having a marriage ceremony!" said the News. "Go all out and decorate your
school hallway, courtyard or even the cafeteria with posters giving
information about marriage rights and have the characters use their vows
to
speak out about marriage equality. You could also have a 'wedding
reception'
afterwards with cake, and get your guests to share their thoughts about
the
issue of marriage equality for all by making a toast."

Other activities include inviting "youth who are children of LGBTQ parents

to speak out about their families to cl***** or during lunchtime talk
session" or holding "Teach-ins" -- "an open meeting to teach other
students
about the issue of marriage equality, the history of marriage, and how
they
can take action in the movement."

Among the Freedom to Marry Week activities organized by the "gay and
non-gay
partner****p," Freedom to Marry in California will include statewide
Valentine's Day Marriage Counter Events at the offices of county clerks
throughout the state.

"Expression, Not Suppression," on Feb. 9 in Fresno, is another event for
"LGBTQI and Straight Ally youth, ages 14-23." The free event will include
speakers, workshops, "time to mix-it-up with local activists, an
impressive
drag show and an amazing Freedom to Marry Dance Party to end the day!!!"
Workshops will include "Safe ***," "How to Do Drag," "Trans 101,"
"Understanding *** and Spirituality," and "Feel Yourself."
