I tend to think that it's all about potential conversions.  A doctor who 
performs abortions is not a good proposition for conversion.  All of the 
fetuses (s)he aborts are potential converts.  Therefore it's acceptable 
to kill one unlikely prospect in order to have a greater number of more 
likely prospects.
Yeah, I know; I'm a dreadful cynic.
