McCain must control the crazies
McCain has been the darling of the media, like Obama, but the media may
end
up hurting him if he isn't more careful.
Already, he's had a pretty rough week. First there was a scurrilous story
in
the country's pre-eminent newspaper, the New York Times, about McCain's
past
associations as a Wa****ngton operative.
It was a cheap shot article about a lobbyist. It was a classic
he-did-not-beat-his-wife story which hinted but didn't prove there was
also
a romantic angle. This story, I would guess, was the result of a scrap
within the newsroom between the so-called investigative re****ters who had
more dirt and the editors who wouldn't let them use it. The compromise was
this story that suggested an allegation then discounted it.
McCain countered immediately with an uncategorical denial which has opened
another flank against him media-wise. His abject denial has spawned an
industry of investigative journalists and bloggers now hunting for links
to
this woman or others.
McCain's problem are crazy Republicans
Ironically, McCain's greatest public relations threat is the party he
represents. On Feb. 26, we had a taste of this in Ohio when McCain had to
apologize and distance himself from an intemperate and bigotted outburst
by
a Cincinnati talk show blowhard.
The popular host, Bill Cunningham, probably has a typical Talk Radio
right-wing audience of unemployed angry white middle-aged guys. He
sup****ted
McCain openly which is why he was the chosen warm-up act for the Senator
who
was appearing to make a speech to party faithful.
The outburst consisted of Cunningham calling Obama names then emphasizing
his middle name several times, Hussein. This was designed to make the
great
unwashed realize that Obama has Muslim roots and having Muslim roots is
not
popular with bigots.
McCain wasn't there but heard about it. He reacted immediately and
smartly.
Now the talk show host has declared on-air war against McCain from now
until
the fall election, along with many members of his audience I'm sure.
Of course, most Talk Radio hosts aren't McCain fans but this was a
sobering
incident and underscores the fact that McCain must control the crazies in
the Republican and right-wing camps or face a backlash by voters.
Unfortunately, McCain's problem is also that there are many truly crazy
Republican sup****ters, ranging from the lynch-mob to the lunch-buckets who
listen to Cunningham, Rush Limbaugh and other broadcasting blabbers. These
Amero-centrics equate all liberals with communists, all sup****ters of
universal health care as Trotskyites and anyone who thinks Iraq was a
stupid
idea as traitors.
Some are downright dangerous, such as the aging Klan boys or Minute Men,
while others are merely intolerable libertarians who think all taxation is
theft and keep rifles, bottled water and canned goods in their storm
cellars
just in case.
Incivility will cost him plenty
McCain's put-down and apology for Cunningham's rant has put loose cannons
on
notice but this still may not prevent future direct attacks on Obama's
race,
parentage by some Republicans.
This would be costly because the media and voters simply don't like such
behaviour in a leader or in his team and tone. In Canada, for instance,
advertisements in 2003 that made fun of Jean Chretien's slight physical
disability helped win him a landslide. Any attacks on Obama by Republicans
or McCain sup****ters will simply remind voters about the intolerance of
old
and the need for change.
Obama assaults will drive every single minority voter to the Democrats as
well as anyone the least bit concerned about social problems, race
relations
or religious intolerance.

John McCain, is desperate and will do any thing to become the president,
kissing Karl Rove's asshole is no big deal with him, after kissing long
line
of the religious right's asshole.
McCain will become the most dangerous president for more so than Bush, as
he
will keep Bush's crusade in the middle east going as long as he lives and
for years beyond.
This will cost untold lives and billion of dollars, while ignoring the
health needs of America. Most in the right wing are so gleeful in slamming
French and other European countries yet they deny reality that the health
care system in these countries, as imperfect may be, does take care of
their
citizens and no one is denied of medical attention for financial reasons.
With all their tax breaks at the expense of working poor, the right wing
republicans are obviously happy with the health care because of their
ability to pay, rest be damned. The question they need to ask is whether
they will be able to take their riches to heaven and have the same
privileges as they enjoy on this earth or will they face the wrath of God,
they are so fond of.
Same goes for McCain who would gleefully go and destroy other countries
and
kill innocent people while professing that he is in favour of life.
