2-year-old boy severely beaten, father held on outstanding
warrant Times wire services
A 2-year-old Palmdale boy who had been severely beaten was
in critical but stable condition today while his father
remained in custody, authorities said.
The boy is "clinging to life," Deputy Ed Hernandez of the
Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau said early this morning.
The child's parents are separated, and the boy had been
visiting his father, Traveion Deshawn Taylor, 23, at a
Palmdale apartment in the 38000 block of 20th Street East
when Taylor called the boy's mother Friday to say something
was wrong with the toddler, it was re****ted.
"The father said the baby was acting lethargic -- he was
acting like he was sick," Sheriff's Lt. Ken Wright said.
"He wasn't sure what was wrong, so the mother went over
to check on the baby. She said that when she got there
the child appeared to be having difficulty breathing."
Wright said the child had heavy bruising on his head,
chest and abdomen and was suffering from internal injuries.
Deputies found Taylor nearby in his car and took him into
custody on an outstanding and unrelated warrant for
assault with a deadly weapon. He was being held on
$1-million bail.
The child was taken to Antelope Valley Hospital, where he
remained in critical but stable condition, Hernandez said.
