More on suppression of speech, expressly for foam-at-the-mouth knuckle-dragging

by Rudy Canoza <pipes@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > May 9, 2008 at 04:49 PM

One of the more insidious forms of suppression of speech by the right
wing are SLAPP and "product disparagement" lawsuits. There is nothing
inherently rightwing about SLAPPs (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public
Participation), but they are used by rightwing organizations or business
far more often than by the left. Product disparagement suits are almost
exclusively the province of the right, the most infamous instances being
the suit brought against Oprah Winfrey by the Texas cattle producers,
and a case brought by Washington state apple growers against CBS and an
environmental group (NRDC - rabid extremists, to be sure) over the
chemical Alar.

Foam-at-the-mouth knuckle-dragging troglodyte conservatives pooh-pooh
this aspect of suppression of speech, trying to explain it away as
something else. It is, of course, suppression of speech that ought to
be protected.
