Complaining that anyone who would dare suggest we might have to
negotiate with the religious fanatics in Iran is naive and seeking a
course of appeasement, President Bush in a speech before the Israelis
Knesset showed that he is as out of touch as ever. Who is he to
complain about the situation in which we now find ourselves? Mistake
after mistake has characterized his military adventure in Iraq It
was his overwhelming desire to invade, but at the same time, to ignore
wise military council by going in with insufficient force, allowing
the Iraqi military to doff their uniforms and simply melt back into
the populace that began the cycle of our failed occupation. You don't
merely elbow a sitting government aside if you are to control an
unruly country. You must demonstrate that you are not to be trifled
with. Bush failed miserably at that primary test of his determination
to subdue Iraq. Instead, he spoke in grand terms about his desire to
"spread liberty" there, displaying naivete of the most glaring sort in
thinking a country with no history of democracy nor respect for it's
basic institutions would be amenable to such an experiment.
Occupation forces continually allowed major trouble makers to
slip from their grasp and to keep the guerilla resistence alive and
well. How many times has Moqtada al Sadr been allowed to escape and
to cause more and more death and destruction? And of all the stupid
things Bush has done, turning over Saddam Hussein to a glorified lynch
mob composed of Sadr sup****ters was the stupidest and lowest thing of
all. He didn't even have the balls to order the moronic turn of
events, himself. He got Condoleezza Rice to do it for him. It was an
appalling act that made very clear just what a fratboy, spoiled brat,
and cruel bastard Bush really is at heart. Hussein deserved life
imprisonment, but treating a head of state, however corrupt and cruel,
like we did the military rulers of Japan or Germany following WWII,
was indefensible.
Expending American lives in the no-win Iraq War has been bad
enough, but compared to other longterm conflicts like Vietnam or WWII,
the loss of life has not been nearly as great. The cost, however, has
been monumental, and that is precisely why we can't seriously consider
invading Iran now, who along with Syria is the country most
responsible for mischief in the Middle East over the past several
decades. Bush's unending requests for another hundred billion every
six months to administer and rebuild both Iraq and Afghanistan have
all but bankrupted the American economy, and with very paltry results
to show for it. You'd think Bush was more interested in Iraq than he
is in America, because it's practically the only thing he has on his
mind.
As the price of gasoline goes through the roof, as the cost of
basic commodities spirals out of control, as millions of Americans go
around with untreated medical conditions and broken teeth unfilled or
uncapped, as well-qualified, capable, and hardworking Americans are
laid off or denied meaninful employment so that connected flunkies can
keep THEIR jobs, Bush keeps playing his fiddle while Rome burns.
Frankly, he's a complete ass, a one-trick pony, and a terrible
Commander in Chief who ought not be pointing his finger at anyone for
appearing to be naive. Bush is so naive that it isn't even funny.
