The coalition of North America Natives (NAN) will go before the United
Nations to sue for settlement of debts owed by the US and Canada.
US and Canadian government has settled with separate tribes over
tribal agreements, but North American Natives now claim compensation
for historical discrimination and land use, including extraction of
resources, and unfair exploitation of Native Americans since
colonization by Europeans.
Recent claims of land under the North Pole, by the US, Russia, Canada,
Norway, and Denmark, signaling development of new petroleum resources
requiring international agreement are expected to involve native
claims for direct sharing in the resulting wealth.
In Alaska, native corporations are expected to also sue separately for
a share of the undistributed Alaska Permanent Fund, now accrued to $35
billion, to meet needs for modern improvements left unaddressed by
lawmakers.
