(Note to self - DO NOT take peanut butter/honey into Bear Counry)
After first posting, we bought some M&Ms but only used those inside a
round,
spring loaded mouse trap that catches the varmit without harming it. We
bought that type thinking this particular shrew might have associated
danger
wit the trap style. We've tried that trap with cheese and then with the
M&Ms had no luck. Having a poor memory about some things, the wife stuck
the excess M&Ms into a drawer in the kitchen. While the shrew wouldn't go
into that round trap to get an M&M, it was willing to climb into the
drawer
and eat them out of the zip-loc bag.
The last day I saw the shrew run across the kitchen floor, it had been in
close proximity of a standard trap with cheese bait, and a round trap with
an M&M. We ran to the store, bought the peanut butter, re-baited the
standard trap with Skippy, and immediately got that turkey. There must be
something in its smell that they just can't resist.
Muchas Gracias,
Robert
