It's now been snowing steadily in Anchorage since 0800 and it's now
1040 hours, making it more than 12 hours. The relatively wet snow is
coming straight down and visibility is still only about 100 yards.
Evening news said something about maybe some more snow tonight, plus a
couple of inches more tomorrow. Total seems to be about 12" at this
point.
They predicted only a couple inches yesterday, but it seems a cold
weather system has moved perfectly into this area and gone stationary.
This is one of the snowiest late April days I can remember. Traffic
problems are awful, because people have already changed-over their
studs for summer tires, and tonight's cold will no doubt drop below
freezing so the roads will be slick tomorrow. The snow ploughs will
be out all night, but it seems to make it worse if they only scrape
down to slick ice. It being Saturday, at least few will be driving to
work tomorrow.
I may jump on the city bus and take a look at how many ditch divers I
can see. As usual, the East side of Anchorage has the most snow and
gets the coldest.
