No I did not drink or eat. I went down there to pick up a a sister in
law that had been there for 4 days totally out of it from drinking.
She was hitch hiking on the Parks Highway for four hours when the
people of Nenana took her in and kept her there until help arrived.
My wife convinced me to drive down there, and I accidently met Jack
Coghill. Also, I do not live in a trailer, although I have a 35 foot
2005 5th wheeler with three slide outs sitting in the yard - paid
for. I live in a small house that I built, and I do mean I in
capitals. I built every bit of this house cash out of pocket,
including the well, the septic system, and the garden. I do have a
2005 kabota BX24 tractor with a front loader and backhoe to help
though. It is a wondrful machine. I just wished my Dad had one on the
homestead. We pulled a 14 inch truning plow with a 4 wheel drive
willys jeep in those days. I did call the Alaska RR people and
re****ted the bridge to them and told them I would put the pictures up
on a web site to prove my point if they would like to see, but they
asked me to not do that. There was a show on TV, the Discovery
Channel, I think, that was about bridges collapsing in the US. It
explained in great detail the im****tance of not allowing the rivets to
rust in place because that will not allow the flexibility required so
things don't break. Well, the rivets are rusted in place at this
bridge. This bridge is one of longest single span bridges in the US
from what I have read and probably requires more flexibility than
most. This bridge is critical for two reason besides the tourist use,
it is used to trans****t coal from Healy to the seven power plants in
the Interior, and it is used to trans****t fuel from the North Pole
Refinery to Anchorage. If this bridge collapsed there would be a
major impact on the State. Oh yes, congrads on meeting and hugging
our great Governor. Please tell her about the bridge. I told Jack
Coghill that the Golden Gate Bridge is painted every three years. He
said the last time the Nenana River RR bridge was painted was back in
the 1940's. He should know since he has been there for about that
long.
