Rules for winter driving in Alaska:
Use snow tires with studs on all four wheels
Use a 4 wheel drive vehicle that is in good condition
Carry winter clothes and footgear
Carry a blanket or sleeping bag
Do not brake suddenly and learn how to come out of a spin out by
taking your foot off the accelerator
Keep the gas tank topped off for long stretches where there are no
facilities
Do not count on businessses along the road being open in the winter
Drive during the day time hours and avoid late night trips when
traffic is low - you may need help
Get a weather re****t before making a long trip and do not drive
through Thompson Pass during a storm.
