Cuban Achievements in Surgery Stressed in Chile
Havana, Nov 22 (acn) Participants at the 15th Latin American Surgery
Congress held in Santiago de Chile praised the progress of Cuba in the
development of minimally invasive surgery.
Cuban surgeon Alejandro Garcia Gutierrez, a professor at Institute of
Gastroenterology in Havana, said the successful implementation of this
technique by Cuba in its fourteen provinces was highlighted at the
scientific event.
Garcia Gutierrez referred to the advantages of minimal invasive surgery
and noted that some 40,000 operations are carried out annually in the
island using this method.
According to the expert, some of the benefits of minimal invasive
surgery include smaller scars, less post operative pain and quicker
recovery.
The 15th Latin American Surgery Congress, which took place from
November 18 to 22, was attended by over 700 surgeons from the region.
