On September 20, 2005, People Daily reported that Baidu, the
NASDAQ-listed firm, lost the first round of copyright dispute vs.
Shanghai-based record agency Push Sound. Baidu said it would appeal
after the Haidian District Court ruled that Baidu infringed the
copyrights of 34 songs, Baidu should stop providing downloading links
and pay 68,000 yuans (US$8,380) to Push Sound.
Push Sound is related to EMI, the international record giant. It filed
the lawsuit in June, asking for 460,000 yuans in compensation and
demanded a public apology from Baidu in the Legal Daily newspaper.
