On October 3, 2005, Xinhua News Agency re****ted that an American who
has served behind Chinese bars for distributing pirated DVDs on the
Internet was taken into custody on charges of selling counterfeit goods
upon his arrival at Los Angeles on a flight from Shanghai.

According to the news, this case was the first piracy investigation
conducted jointly by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and
the Chinese authorities. China sentenced Guthrie to 2.5 years in
prison and fined 500,000 yuans and ordered to be de****ted after his
