On December 23, 2005, citing Reuters, Boston Globe reported that
Chinese military sources said a Chinese general has been punished for
telling reporters China could use nuclear weapons in the event of a
U.S. attack over Taiwan.

Read the article in
http://www.boston.com/news/world/asia/articles/2005/12/23/beijing_is_said_to_rebuke_general/

An outline of the article:
* A Chinese military source, requesting anonymity, said Major
General Zhu Chenghu received an "administrative demerit" from
National Defense University, which will bar him from promotion
  for one year.
* One source said, "he misspoke, but the punishment could not
be too harsh or we would be seen as too weak towards the U. S."
* The punishment Zhu received is the second lightest among five,
but it could hurt his career.
