Yes, I have read Wild Swans myself, and I thought it described very
well the living conditions in China in the past. I know that the
Chinese have had a terrible life time throughout history, and I am very
happy for them that they are now beginning to enjoy freedom and
economic prosperity. The writer has also written another book, a
biography of Mao. This book has been well received in the West, but
none of my Chinese friends say that it is a good book. They tell me
that it is a personal propaganda against Mao by the author. Since I am
not Chinese, I don't think I will bother reading it.
