This point is often raised when someone sequesters the writing, music
or art of another culture. Paul Simon did it in recent times in South
Africa.
Without it we would not have "Porgy and Bess" or "Showboat".
Or the blues, or soul... as it is today....
Most likely cultural borrowing is the norm- the rule rather than the
exception.
