Why Christian advocacy for the Atlantic Alliance?

Because Jesus would want us to pray for our leaders and advocate the
welfare
for those of us who protect us, and that includes our NATO Alliance. This
Advocate actually considered communicating her desire for Christians to
pray
for our North Atlantic Alliance, manifested primary in the institution of
NATO, for some time now. After all, this Advocate prays for our Atlantic
Alliance and our NATO, most especially for the success and preservation of
our Alliance - and its leaders, most especially SecGen Scheffer. I pray
for
our Alliance, and I suggest that all Christians in NATO nations do the
same.
This type of advocacy is not appropriate for "The NATO Citizen" website
(www.pronato.com), as the nations of NATO are made up of free citizens
that
practice a variety of religious beliefs - and those with differing belief
systems we Christians should tolerate and accept as part of the religious
make-up of our NATO nations. And with that, this Advocate has spoken out
against the treatment of Russian Eastern Christians in Latvia by the
government in Riga, even though she, herself, is a Roman Catholic, the
predominant religious belief of most Latvians. However, I doubt that our
Holy Father would agree that discrimination against ethnic Russians living
in Latvia was a good state policy to come out of Riga.
By the same token, this Christian Advocacy for NATO and the Atlantic
Community should not be read as setting up a "Western Christian verses
Middle Eastern Muslim," "clash of civilizations" type website. In fact,
anti-Islamic hatred will not be tolerated by this Author and Advocate and
this website will have a strict policy of avoiding the appearance of
"clash
of civilizations." The truth is that Christianity is a major part of
"Western," North Atlantic civilization, and that fact is unavoidable.
Those
who think that this is the purpose of the Christians for NATO site are
misreading the intent for other purposes that suit political and
propaganda
agendas.

watch!

Now the prime reason for the outreach and advocacy of NATO at this time is
the 2004 American Presidential Elections. This Author will admit that she
voted for John Kerry, and did so because she saw Mr. Kerry as offering a
more positive foreign policy, especially with regard to our NATO Allies.
The
Bush administration has had a policy and action that have damaged
transatlantic relations and the Atlantic Alliance. This Advocate felt a
sense of betrayal from fellow American Christians who chose solvable
domestic moral issues over a more positive and "Christ-like" foreign
policy.
Well, after receiving notice that John Kerry, the hope of more positive
transatlantic relations and a stronger NATO, had lost to George Bush, this
Advocate swung into action. Instead of putting up with four more years of
deteriorating transatlantic relations and the weakening of our NATO, I
immediately began a letter writing campaign to various American Christian
organizations, the same ones that were involved in "get out the vote
drives"
that got Bush re-elected. George W. Bush, American Christians must
understand, conducts his foreign policy much like a Roman Emperor, not
like
a Godly leader guided by Christian principles!
I told these organizations that the reason why I voted against George W.
Bush was his damaging effects on transatlantic relations, especially on
our
NATO Alliance. I told them that NATO was, as I believe, God's main
instrument to being down the Warsaw Pact, thereby liberating millions of
Eastern and Western Christians alike. Also, I told them about my pray
desires for success of our NATO and that they too should pray for our
Atlantic Alliance's success.
What I will be telling and advocating in the future is a demand on the
Bush
administration that is adopt a more positive foreign relations policy that
is based on Christian principles, not arrogance and vengeance against
other
nations (especially with regard to our European Allies) for not supporting
the Iraq War. This means that Bush will have to drop his arrogant and
vengeful policy that makes him look more like a Roman Emperor, not a US
President that lays claim to Christ as Savior!
