Having thought about this for a while, I think I need to expand this
discussion
beyond soc.culture.irish to the legal newsgroups I could find in my
news-program
, some are in the good old USA, and some are in the UK. I appeal to all
members
of such groups to please read this post and advise me on international
slander
laws...

GA is calling me a "IRA cunt"? I missed that... That would indicate
that
he believe me to be a member of a proscribed and illegal organization
knows as
the Irish Republican Army, or the IRA for short...., and I further expect
he's
got *tons* of evidence to back up that claim so I won't have to involve
the
authorities (again <sigh>, But I've a friend in the right place this time)
about
certain posts made on Usenet attacking me, associating
me as a member of an illegal organization...
Isn't that slander?
Any lawyers (or just those who *know*) here to advise us on this
situation?
Has GA stepped over a legal line...

Note: for those usenet newsgroups outside of soc.culture.Irish, GA (aka
GoldenArse) has been a thorn in my side for some time... I'm an Irish
Nationalist with aspirations to see a United Ireland... I support the
peace
efforts and the ceasefire of the IRA and decommissioning of same)... In
Ireland
it is lllegal to be a member of the IRA which is punishable by time in
prison...
Since this individual (who's real name I know, but will spare him the
embarrassment of naming him), is insistent that I am a member of a
proscribed
and illegal organization... And has no proof...
I'm wondering... I'm no lawyer..
But...
What are the standards for slander in Ireland?
You should know two facts:
I am an Irish citizen living now near Boston in the United States.
GA is an Irish citizen living in Idaho, USA... Who commutes more
frequently to
Ireland than I can afford to do...
Is there any slander laws, either in Ireland, or in this great USA that GA
has
crossed over...
Do I have a case...
Or do I have to put up with the ravings of this fellow...
