They figure that after the next presidential election,
they will be the ones issuing warrantless wiretaps -
shortly to be followed by chargeless arrests.

Now while a republican president might abuse such
powers, all will be fine with someone like Hillary
Clinton in charge - indeed she could use such powers to
make sure that no one unlike Hillary Clinton could ever
get to be in charge again.  :-)
