This Friday, March 28th, a diverse group of over 100 cyclists,
videographers, artists and community leaders came together for the
"Still
We Speak" rally in Union Square to denounce the NYPD's First Amendment
abuses, which include the parade permit rules limited the number of
people
who can legally assemble in a public place.
The rally ended with video evidence, presented by Glass Bead
Collective,
showing a high ranking officer, Sergeant Timothy Horohoe, violating a
federal consent decree while arresting two people documenting police
activity in Times Square during the March 2007 Critical Mass.
Although the NYPD was in full force in Union Square, the cyclists
were
able to regroup for a glorious arrest and ticket-free Critical Mass
ride.
They headed uptown for a quick stop in front of Mayor Bloomberg's
residence to demand an end to these regulatory constraints on New
Yorker's
civil liberties by the NYPD. Then headed downtown for a victorious
bike
lift in Times Square.
