US military deaths in Iraq at 4, 048

As of Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at least 4,048 members of the U.S.
military
have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to
an
Associated Press count. The figure includes eight military civilians. At
least 3,299 died as a result of hostile action, according to the
military's
numbers.
The AP count is two more than the Defense Department's tally, last updated
Wednesday at 10 a.m. EDT.
The British military has re****ted 176 deaths; Italy, 33; Ukraine, 18;
Poland, 21; Bulgaria, 13; Spain, 11; Denmark, seven; El Salvador, five;
Slovakia, four; Latvia, three; Estonia, Netherlands, Thailand, Romania,
two
each; and Australia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, South Korea, one death each.
The latest deaths re****ted by the military:
A Marine was killed Monday in a bombing in Basra.
A soldier was killed Wednesday by small-arms fire in eastern Baghdad.
The latest identifications re****ted by the military:
Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Cherie L. Morton, 40, Bakersfield, Calif.,
died
Sunday in Galali, Muharraq, Bahrain. The incident is under investigation.
She was assigned to the Naval Security Force, Naval Sup****t Activity
Bahrain.
Two Army soldiers died Monday in Beiji when their vehicle struck an
explosive. Both were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry
Regiment,
1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort
Campbell, Ky. Killed were Spc. Steven J. Christofferson, 20, Cudahy, Wis.,
and Sgt. Adam J. Kohlhaas, 26, Perryville, Mo.
Army Pvt. Ronald R. Harrison, 25, Morris Plains, N.J., died Tuesday at
Forward Operating Base Falcon near Baghdad of a non-combat injury;
assigned
to the 703rd Brigade Sup****t Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd
Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga.
