Wow!! Guilt by association by association by association. Barack
Obama might be a communist because he associated with Wright who
associated with Jackson who associated with Fidel who associatiated
with communists. The Obama bashers are getting hysterical.
But I'm getting one thing from all this--with all the digging by both
the Republicans and Democratic opponents, with all the money spent
trying to find some political weakspot, the only thing Obama's
opponents can come up with is his church-going association with a
fiery, outspoken, ex-marine-turned-preacher who heads Obama's local
church.
That's it! In all the many months Obama has been on the campaign
trail, all Obama's enemies have been able to uncover is that Obama's
local minister has criticized the United States government for killing
innocent people and for treating some of its citizens unfairly. And
the good preacher did it from the pulpit, the place where religious
leaders should be expected to speak out against injustices, against
inhuman government policies, and against inhumane political leaders.
No one should expect a religious leader to counsel or condone
compromises in matters of immorality. If a minister sees a wrong
committed, we should expect that minister to speak out. And the
political spinmeisters are desperately holding that before the voters
and suggesting that Obama must bear the guilt for his preacher.
It may backfire. Most Americans, even some of the most racially
prejudiced Americans, have a sense of fair play. They see a black man
openly applying for a position for which he seems qualified. They see
a black man who has carried himself with dignity in the midst of a
slanderous campaign against him and who seems to be independent of the
entrenched powers in Wa****ngton that have brought the United States to
the brink of collapse. This black man just might be the man for the
job.
