I think that there was a fundamental cognitive dissonance faced by just
about anyone in the audience. The violence was ludicrous and almost
Pythonesque - the kind of thing that Troma dreams about doing but can't
due to budgetary constraints. However, the tone of the film was so grim
that I couldn't get a giggle out of seeing bad guys liquefied by machine
guns or pirates exploding when struck by rounds from a small pistol.
That, I'm afraid, is a tragedy.
