On his listening tour Brenda Nelson kept repeating
a pointless anecdote about a woman buying petrol who only
had $5 in her purse.. B^p As everyone noted, just a few months
since his government was kicked out, he seemed to be telling us
he finally understands how tough life under the Liberals had become! B^D

Perhaps she was in mortgage stress, like so many of those Howard blindly
described as 'relaxed and comfortable'. Perhaps the GST tax gouge,
on top of the fuel excise, on top of the oil price increases since the
Iraq invasion and instability in the oil region, was hurting her hip
pocket. Perhaps, like much of the economy, she was exposed to the latest
market rort, the subprime lending which is cascading from the USSA
recession.. another example of tory economic mismanagement even more
damaging than the Bottom of the Harbour tax rorts which flourished under
Howard's time as treasurer.

> We just finished a decade of low unemployment, low interest rates,

In other words you governed during the continuation of the resource
boom, not quite able to maintain the 4% growth you inherited from
Keating, or do anything to restructure the economy for the future, as he
had done, but still able to produce surpluses by running the record
largest taxing government in our history. And when the nation woke up
they were in record debt, still fighting your grubby oil war, with
rising interest rates, corporate failure, home repossessions and
vulnerable to the global economic downturn, they dumped the tory
party so resoundingly even the Lying Rodent himself lost his seat! B^D

With a global boom pushing resource prices to stratospheric levels,
and the potential to use prosperity to build for the future.. You blew
it on a property bubble, social division, disunity and death.. Culture
wars at home and real ones in Iraq.

 > Now we'll just pretend we didn't.

Pretending is what the tories are good at.

As usual, the ALP will have to fix it.

Howard made a big circus out of physically detaining a few refugees,
now we are obliged to take some of the MILLIONS of refugees from
his grubby, failed oil war in Iraq.

 > If nothing else, leftists excel at rewriting history ;-)

It was you who lied us into a war in which hundreds of thousands died
and millions forced to flee as refugees, based on a LIE about WMD's

Even your National Party president admitted the war was a crime.

Windshuttle, Howard's pocket White Eyepatch historian was the
worst historical revisionist Australia has had the misfortune to spawn.

And now, you are pretending that Brenda Nelson has a future,
when the rest of Australia can smell more Liberal Party Dead Meat! B^p

It's no wonder the tories are in complete disarray, contradicting
their massively unpopular temporary 'leader' every day, unable
to formulate a coherent policy on anything and running at 9% public
support, while Rudd's approval has risen inexorably as the more people
see him in action, the more they like what they see.

You just stick to looking backwards and denying the past, it's
why you are where you are today. B^)

"Rudd should not have spoken out so publicly on Tibet" - Brendan Nelson

Perhaps we should ask George Brandis what
today's tory Tibet 'policy' is.. attacking the Olympic flame?! B^D

but I'm not a Royalist" - Brendan Nelson
