In "Discourse on Method", Rene Descartes likened the philosophizing of
some
to "a blind man who, in order to fight on equal terms with a man who has
sight, invites him into the depths of a cavern". That is how I feel about
the limits some seek to place upon my reasoning capacities. They do not
see
the wisdom of my thoughts, which is fine. But, rather than just
acknowledge
that what I am talking about is beyond their own comprehension, they seek
to
draw me into the cave of darkness with them.
There are basic truths, divine laws if you can accept it, which we
instinctively knew as children. We generically knew right from wrong even
as
children because the spirit of the One who exists in All makes us aware of
these things. We knew, even as kids, that if we walked up to another child
and hit him, that other child was going to either hit back or run home
crying to his momma. If he hit back, the fight was on but who wants to
live
like that ... well, judging from some of the posts here you would think at
least a couple of us think that is the best way to get along with your
fellow human beings. But, the so-called law of the jungle, the law of
natural selection, is only appealing to those who think they are the
biggest
bully on the block.
Let's tie what I have been talking about to the initial theme of this
thread. _ALL_ adults in America know our government abuses other
countries
of the world. You can't watch or listen to any source of world news
without
being inundated with proof positive of America's arrogance. But, some of
us
_choose_ to pretend not to see. Such pretense is intrinsic in the American
cultural asili, it is the germ, the seed, the birthing spirit of America's
wickedness. People, even the worst of us, have the capacity for godliness.
That capacity seeks to lead us to a godly life. To resist that spirit, we
need pretense, cultural traditions, and pastors who preach sermons on the
goodness of America and the rightness of her war efforts. God bless
America!
Such pretense takes your mind off love and onto the false idols of
America/money/oil/etc.
There is a lower nature of man, an evil spirit if you will, which yearns
not
to live in love and harmony, but rather to be the Man, to be God, to own
all
the marbles, to look out for #1. That spirit is the spirit which currently
drives American foreign policy. When Bush finally tells one too many lies
for even the most barbaric of us to ignore, he will go away. But, someone
else will be propped up in his place because Bush is not the problem.
Americans wanting to be The Man is the problem.
The solution I suggest is for each of us to start by knowing self, to root
out the wickedness within your own soul. That leads to a purity which
opens
the mind to seeking, and then recognizing, workable solutions to life's
problems. When enough individuals Know Self, we will have Peace on Earth.
