Already awaiting trial, the founder of W.E.B. Dubois Academy in
Over-the-Rhine now faces new allegations of theft and fraud from his time
leading the once-successful school.
A Hamilton County Grand Jury handed up three new charges against Wilson
Willard and also naming an alleged partner, Andrea N. Peterson, in the
indictment Friday.
According to investigators, in 2003, the two created a fictitious $15,000
invoice for Peterson’s clerical services, which were never performed, said
Julie Wilson, spokeswoman for Prosecutor Joe Deters’ office.
Willard’s attorney, Ted Froncek, said Monday he had not seen the
indictment. “You know what, it’s just an allegation,” he said. “It’s just
words on a piece of paper right now, until I have a chance to investigate
them.”
The charges could carry up to 3½ years in prison, if the pair is
convicted.
In October 2006, Willard was indicted on six charges of theft, two charges
of unauthorized use of property, two charges of tampering with records and
two charges of telecommunications fraud. He resigned shortly before the
indictment.
A July trial date has been set for those charges.
The new charges came to light as the investigation continued in the state
auditor’s office, said Wilson.
