Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad
Hossein Saffar Harandi said on Saturday that broad based
ties between Iran and Algeria is rooted in religious and
historical relations between the two countries.
The Iranian minister made the remarks in a meeting with
his Algerian counterpart Khalida Toumi in Tehran on Saturday.
Given the struggle of the Algerian people against colonialism,
he pointed out that at one time, occupiers maintained their
interests through direct occupation of countries but they
have changed their course of action in the contemporary
era and they have adopted a new pattern in which they
do not necessarily occupy target countries.
"Our hypocrite enemies show a humanitarian face and speak
of democracy and human rights but in action they are soaked
in the bloods of humans in various forms," he said.
The enemies spare no efforts to create discord among Muslims
and they employ all types of plots to achieve this, he pointed out.
Iran and Algeria, with good historical record of resistance to
the hegemony of global powers, could play a leading role in
the campaign against neo-colonialism, said Saffar Harandi.
He expressed hope that the two countries would be able to
broaden all out ties in the cultural, arts, cinema, media, cultural
heritage by organizing cultural weeks as well as film festivals
or cultural exhibitions.
The Algerian culture minister, who is in Tehran to attend Algeria
Cultural week, for her part, expressed satisfaction with her
current visit to Tehran and voiced her country's firm determination
to broaden cultural and arts cooperation with Iran.
Algeria loves nations who never yield to superpowers and regards
Iran as its brother and friend, she said.
Existing cultural facilities in both countries could help further
broaden ties between the two nations, she pointed out.
