Moslems kill Landlady after Koran row
A couple murdered and then burned the body of their landlady — following
an argument over money and their Koran.
Islam’s holy book is at the centre of the murder, allegedly committed by
Liyaqath Ahroon, 29, and his partner Cachandra de Vos, 22.
The couple, originally from Durban, are said to have argued over
Ahroon’s Koran, which their 70- year-old Sandton landlady, Bridget
Theresa Cairns, had in her home.
It is not known why Cairns had it in her possession.
The couple, who rented a cottage on Cairns’s property, allegedly
discussed the murder beforehand.
The court heard that De Vos told her husband to “finish her off”
because
Cairns, who had been demanding outstanding rent, was the “cause of their
problems”.
Ahroon and De Vos are alleged to have attacked Cairns with a spanner
before stabbing her in the neck and chest on November 15 2006.
Cairns died at the scene.
The couple are alleged to have bundled the dead woman into her car
before driving it to a petrol station in Evander, east of Johannesburg.
After buying petrol they drove to a deserted field and set the car alight.
Judgement in the case will be handed down tomorrow.
