Subject: [Kukiforum] RE: [MATUU] Some allowed to vote in advance due to
emergencies
Dear Khonu mtung and all,
Khonu mtung is expected to promote democracy against the Burmese military
fascism. But even if it tries to be neutral between democracy and
fascism,
it should not use the term like "to exercise their franchise TO APPROVE
the
draft constitution" in what it stated as "Some individuals in Chin state,
Burma have already begun to exercise their franchise to approve the draft
constitution in the referendum ahead of May 10".
This term "to exercise their franchise TO APPROVE the draft constitution"
is
totally a bias term to promote the Burmese military fascist constitution
though it may not be the intension of Khonu mthung. Many readers who are
undecided which side to vote because of no enough information will just
interpret it that Khonu mthung media is propagating to approve the very
rigid unitary constitution in one party system to protect the Burmese
military rule with this fascist constitution drafted by a handful of the
Burmese "Generals" with their handpicked people whom they could easily
threaten them to clap their hands whatever the "Generals" order them.
We do not believe that a media like Khonu mtung which is established to
promote democracy and self determination will have bias on the fascism in
promoting it.
Even if the Burmese military regime use this term in bias on their fascist
constitution, Khonu mtung media should try to be neutral between the two
using the neutral term like "Some individuals in Chin state, Burma have
already begun to exercise their franchise to vote in the referendum on
the
draft constitution ahead of May 10. Here it will be a neutral term because
it does not mention whether one votes in pro or cons.
We hope that Khonu mtung will try its best at least to be neutral between
the two if it doesn't want to side with democracy and federalism clearly
as
a media. Lnk

[MATUU] Some allowed to vote in advance due to emergencies
Some allowed to vote in advance due to emergencies
Khonumthung News
April 28, 2008.
Some individuals in Chin state, Burma have already begun to exercise their
franchise to approve the draft constitution in the referendum ahead of May
10, the officially scheduled date for voting across the country.
Local authorities in Chin state were said to have allowed some persons who
needed to travel for further studies or for emergencies to cast their
votes
in quarters or village council offices in their respective areas since
April
15.
"I've already submitted my ballot paper in an envelope to the village
council members who were appointed as sub-commission to monitor voting for
the constitutional referendum," a voter who arrived in Rangoon, the former
capital of Burma said.
On behalf of the so called "emergency voters", the village or quarter
authorities will put the ballots in envelopes and drop it into a ballot
box
set up in respective towns and villages on May 10
The voters did not mention whether they had voted "No" or "Yes" for
security
concerns.
The local authorities in Matupi Township in Chin state had issued some
ballots to some students and travelers as an emergency case, a student who
arrived in Mandalay, second capital of Burma said.
Some Burmese citizens abroad like in Japan and Singapore had already begun
voting for the constitutional referendum in their country's embassies.
Around 12 Burmese demanding the right to vote were injured in a scuffle
with
Japanese police outside the Burmese Embassy in Tokyo on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Burmese democracy activists in exile staged a peaceful
demonstration in front of Burmese embassy in Singapore and Thailand urging
people to vote "No" against the draft constitution.
Yesterday, security was tightened in Rangoon for fear of possible protest
against the referendum.
