Psychology professor, Quaker and peace activist William Woodward, who like
me underwent a media
inquisition during the summer of 2006, is in India presenting a paper on
9/11 truth to the All
India Anti-Imperialism Conference, Calcutta, India, Nov. 27-29, 2007.

The Psychology of Truthtelling: 9/11 Groups in the U.S

Many, many cities in the United States have their 9/11 questions group: in
my home state, we
have them in Concord, Dover, and Manchester, with sup****ters in Keene,
Peterborough, and
Milford. Geographical distribution is the first characteristic of 9/11
groups. They attract
peace activists, of course, but also credentialed persons from every
field. I will not take the
time to list the groups, and in fact it would be difficult, because
despite every effort to
coordinate, they are independent. Start with yahoo groups.
These groups send representatives to conferences where they acquire
information and networking.
On September 11, 2007, at “Blueprint for Truth” in Oakland, CA, 130
architects & engineers
examined the evidence with architect Richard Gage. The West Hartford, CT,
conference on
November 3, 2007, had the theme “9/11: Family Members, First Responders
and Experts Speak Out.”
Previous conferences have occurred in Wisconsin, Arizona, and elsewhere.
The most fun networker is Kevin Barrett at the University of Wisconsin,
Islamic mythology
scholar and founder of the Muslim Jewish Christian Alliance www.mujca.com.
Barrett has a radio
talk show and a hilarious autobiography.
Meanwhile, 9/11 Blogger is a good place to begin our review of the
professions that have
contributed to truthtelling about 9/11. This website contains news items
and quotations from
the following categories: “military leaders, legal scholars, structural
engineers, architects,
scientists, members of Congress, 9/11 Commissioners, psychiatrists and
psychologists,
historians, victims’ family members and heroic first responders, prominent
liberals, prominent
conservatives, Christians, Jews and Muslims, pilots and air traffic
controllers.” The
psychology here includes multiple professional perspectives, each speaking
a different
disciplinary voice. Do not be disturbed by the different takes on this
disturbing set of
events: formulate your own pattern from reading architects, engineers,
stock market analysts,
air traffic controllers, pilots, etc. The massive, intentional coverup
itself points to the
perpetrators.
Dan Rather, retired news anchor, stated that "there was a time in South
Africa that people
would put flaming tires around peoples' necks if they dissented. And in
some ways the fear is
that you will be necklaced here, you will have a flaming tire of lack of
patriotism put around
your neck. Now it is that fear that keeps journalists from asking the
toughest of the tough
questions.... And again, I am humbled to say, I do not except myself from
this criticism.
...What we are talking about here - whether one wants to recognise it or
not, or call it by its
proper name or not - is a form of self-censor****p." An article about how
journalists have been
threatened for asking innocuous questions about 9/11 disappeared from the
web archives of The
Los Angeles Times.
Karen Kwiatkowski, the retired Air Force colonel, wrote (2007) that "I
have been told by
re****ters that they will not re****t their own insights or contrary
evaluations of the official
9/11 story, because to question the government story about 9/11 is to
question the very
foundations of our entire modern belief system regarding our government,
our country, and our
way of life. To be charged with questioning these foundations is far more
serious than being
labeled a disgruntled conspiracy nut or anti-government traitor, or even
being sidelined or
marginalized within an academic, government service, or literary career.
To question the
official 9/11 story is simply and fundamentally revolutionary. In this
way, of course,
questioning the official story is also simply and fundamentally American."

2007, p. 26). Yet pressures to remain silent come from advertisers and
the media, as Dan
Rather explained.
When I was interviewed about the CSPAN program, “Alternative Theories of
9/11” in August, 2006,
the New Hamp****re Sunday News ignored the evidence and literature I cited.
Instead, they
pressed me for my personal belief, which I said I offer as one among many
perspectives:
“cor****ate elites orchestrated 9/11.” Then they gave this quote to the
governor, a senator, and
a state official. These officials commented that my remarks were out of
line (Staff Re****ts,
2006). Within a week, an organization instigated by Vice President Dick
Cheney’s wife Lynn, the
American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA), had requested my
university’s board of trustees
to investigate me (Wilson, 2006). To their credit, my university affirmed
that no students had
complained about me and that I was in good standing (Tuohy, 2006). This
appeared to constitute
intimidation by the federal government. I had the sense that my
colleagues’ funding could have
been jeopardized. So I ceased writing about 9/11 until now.
A weak psychological argument for the government’s official story of 9/11
that 19 Arabs did the
deed might be that whistleblowers would have come forward. Patty Casazza,
a family member, said
she has talked with many whistleblowers who stated that the gagging of
Sibel Edmonds, a
translator for the government, intimidated them. They asked the Jersey
Girls to request the
Commission to subpoena the whistleblowers. The Commission agreed, but
never subpoenaed or
invited them (West Hartford conference).
Let’s briefly consider the psychology of the godfather of the
neoconservative Movement, Leo
Strauss. Strauss at the University of Chicago wrote that a stable
political order should be
based on an external threat, and if one does not exist, then one must be
manufactured (Drury,
1997). Election fraud brought the neoconservatives to power. They were not
popular. They
generated popularity and sup****t by resort to a monstrous external threat
of a 9/11 attack from
Muslim terrorists, a “false flag” terrorist event in which an enemy was
falsely blamed for a
military action we orchestrated (George Wa****ngton’s Blog, 6/1/06).
Truthtelling has various contexts. One is re****ting on rape and the
delicate therapeutic
process of recovering memories and working them through emotionally
(Stock, 2007). A related
instance of truth telling aims in therapeutic fa****on to “provide services
for all of those
affected by the events of September 11.” A low level of truthtelling
would be plans for a
memorial museum (http://www.voicesofsept11.org/
dev/index.php), which
originated in 2001 as “a
clearing house for information.” Unfortunately, such a museum website
does not seem to provide
the kind of truthtelling that scholars have done. It does post interviews
with families who
care to share their stories. A similar truthtelling website also collects
reminiscences about
Flight 93 that went down in Pennsylvania and intends to contribute to a
museum.
More relevant to the deeper sense of truthtelling and catharsis of the
public pursued here
would be the “Truth Telling Coalition,” founded by CIA analyst Ray
McGovern in an “Appeal for
Truth Telling” in 2004. By 2004, evidence of government ****elding of truth
was already well
do***ented (http://www.tompaine.com/articles/
appeal_for_truth_telling.php; Ahmed, 2002;
Griffin, 2004; Ruppert, 2004). He appealed to government officials to
“disclose the truth
about the war in Iraq.” The war, of course, is linked to 9/11 as a
constantly invoked
justification. Among the evidentiary do***ents, McGovern requested “2) 28
pages redacted from
the re****t of the Joint House-Senate Inquiry on Intelligence Activities
before and after 9/11,
concerning the ties between the 9/11 terrorists and the government of
Saudi Arabia.” McGovern
requested the “8) Department of Justice-Inspector General (DOJ-IG) Re****t:
RE: Sybel Edmonds
vs. FBI, completed, classified.” He also requested “10) DOJ-IG Re****t:
RE:FBI & Foreknowledge
of 9/11, completed, classified.” The government secrets involving Saudi
Arabia, translator
Sibel Edmonds, and FBI foreknowledge would help to establish whether the
government “let it to
happen on purpose”(LIHOP) “made it happen on purpose” (MIHOP)(Tarpley,
2005). Since 2004,
McGovern established the group, “Veteran Intelligence Professionals for
Sanity.”
The preeminent website 911Truth.org lists seven articles on “truth
strategies.” For example, in
2007 physicist Steven Jones asks “What are the Goals of the 9/11 Truth
Community?” (Jan. 9,
2007). He urged promoters of extreme positions (ray beams, mini-nukes,
www.st911.org) to
desist and to stay with explanations accepted by the physical science
community (stj911.org).
The goal should be “to bring the perpetrators of the horrific 9/11 crimes
to justice.”
In 2006, David Chen earlier appealed to the antiwar movement to seize upon
or at least
acknowledge the 9/11 truth movement as addressing the chief justification
for the war. His
lament is “that it is high time for the people in the antiwar movement” to
join the search for
truth that many of them shun (Aug. 14, 2006). Some believe that “9/11 is
a distraction from
the larger fight to end the war…” These antiwar voices fail to appreciate
that 9/11 was
planned in advance as part of a bogus “War on Terror.”
My own favorite truth teller is Professor David Ray Griffin, whose series
of books on 9/11
culminated in The 9/11 Commission Re****t: Omissions and Distortions
(2005). He summarized it a
year later in an article on the 571 page lie (May 22, 2005) that can be
found at the 9/11 truth
website (http://www.911truth.org/article.php).
Omissions include the fact
that at least six of
the alleged hijackers have been re****ted to be still alive, or the fact
that Building Seven
also went down on September 11. Griffin listed over a hundred lies, in
addition to these
conspicuous omissions.
Another line of truthtelling comes from the community of prominent persons
listed at “Patriots
Question 9/11” (http://www.patriotsquestion911.com)
They include engineers
and architects,
pilots and aviation professionals, professors, survivors and family
members, entertainment and
media professionals. In addition, they include military, intelligence
service, law enforcement,
and government officials. A recent article on this website comes form the
intelligence
community: “Seven CIA Veterans challenge 9/11 Commission Re****t.” They
call it a ”joke” and a
“coverup.”
Let me end by recommending that each of you sponsor a film fest, spread
out over several
months, in your local community. Each DVD deserves an evening of
discussion. Be sure to invite
your friends; you will need a sup****t group for the stunning array of
evidence. Here are some
titles: “9/11 Press for Truth,” “The Great Conspiracy,” “The Great
Deception,” “Improbable
Collapse,” “Loose Change-Final Cut,” and “Confronting the Evidence.”
Order them online.
When you finish these, you may also want to ask bloggers for DVDs to show
the public, such as
“Understanding the Psychological Barriers to Accepting 9/11 Truth,”
“America: From Freedom to
Fascism,” and “Steven Jones PhD at UVSC,” “Boston Tea Party for 9/11
Truth,” Tom Hansen’s folk
songs about 9/11, and many more.
Then you can go on to discuss with your friends the weightier books on the
subject: start with
the most recent, 9/11 and American Empire (2007) and Debunking 9/11
Debunking (2007) then go
back to the classics: The War on Freedom (2002), The New Pearl Harbor
(2004), Crossing the
Rubicon (2004), Synthetic Terror (2005), The Terror Conspiracy (2006),

Enjoy the descent into Hell! Better to go with your eyes open. Find one or
more friends to go
