A Kurdish Dove from Noah's Ark
Almost every child in England has a toy Noah's Ark. The story of Noah's
Ark
is known by every person in England. What many people believe to be the
remains of Noah's Ark lies in the mountains surrounding Mount Ararat.
According to the Christian Bible, God sent a great flood to punish humans
for their inhumanity to man.
Noah was chosen to build a great boat, the Ark, and take his family and
many
different types of animals so that they would survive the flood and
populate
the earth once more. This story is also mentioned in the Quran.
Noah, when the floods were receding sent a dove from the ark to see if
there
was any land. This dove returned with an olive tree in its beak and this
symbol is now the internationally recognised symbol for Peace. And it
orginates in Kurdistan!
Noah's Ark has now sent a dove of peace to England. Mukaddes Kubilay, the
Kurdish mayor of Dogubayazit attended the Newroz festival in the Greater
London Authority and met and spoke with the Mayor of London Ken
Livingstone.
This meeting brings to an end a tour of England where Mukaddes has spoken
at
numerous meetings and met with UK Lords and MP's where she has stressed
the
im****tance of a peaceful and democratic solution to the Kurdish Question
in
Turkey.
Mukaddes has spoken of the struggle of the Kurds for their rights in
Turkey
and how her party the DTP has successfully struggled to develop services
for
the Kurdish people. She has pointed out time and again that the Kurds only
wish is for a peaceful resolution to the Kurdish Question in Turkey.
Mukaddes attended a well attended meeting in the New Forest in the south
of
England where she was presented with £200.00 for her projects in
Dogubayazit. The Kurdish Community in London held an auction for some
carpets brought from her woman' s collective and that raised another
£750.00. The money collected will go to the woman's collective in
Dogubayazit.
Mukaddes met with the opposition party's foreign affairs minister Hugo
Swire
and Nigel Evans, a minister who is a delegate on the Council of Europe
Turkey EU group. Mukaddes re****ted to them how Turkey's reform agenda was
affecting the Kurdish people in the area. She also met with Labour MP's
Jeremy Corbynn, Dianne Abbot and Katy Clark.
A tour of the House's of Parliament were organised for her and she watched
Prime Ministers Question Time from the balcony of the House of Parliament.
Mukaddes also attended a number of meetings with different NGO's and
woman's
organisations.
"I would like to thank the organisers of my trip here and hope that the
relation****ps that we have begun will grow. At this time of Newroz we
sincerely hope that the next year will bring a peaceful and democratic
solution to the Kurdish Question in Turkey."
