Father Saad Sirop Hanna is a catholic chaldean priest from Baghdad who
was kidnapped on the 15 of August, as soon after the afternon Mass in
the dangerous southern area of Dora. There are no news of him by now,
it is only known that a very high ransom has been requested to the
Chaldean Church.
This kidnapping follows, after neither a month, the one of another
catholic chaldean priest, Fr. Raad Washan Sawa, who was released the
day after his kidnapping and after having been threatened to be killed
if he would not prepare a ransom of 200.000 $. Now Fr. Raad is safe
abroad, but it's not the case of Fr. Saad, still in the hands of his
kidnappers after 9 days.
Today the Pope, Benedetto XVI, appealed to the kidnappers to release
the abducted priest, and this appeal follows the one made by all the
christian catholic and orthodox Iraqi leaders who called upon
Government help by a letter addressed to the Iraqi President, Jalal
Talabani, and to the Prime Minister, Nouri Al Maliki.
Father Saad Sirop is young, he is only 34 years old, and in Baghdad he
runs the church of Saint Jacob and the Theology Department at Babel
College, the only university-level Christian institution in Iraq, but
he is a little bit Italian too as he lived in Rome for some years to
study, and as he was coming back to Rome to complete his master.
Father Saad's kidnapping is another heavy blow to the Iraqi Christian
community, and for this reason we join those who appealed to Father
Saad's kidnappers:

=E8 stato rapito il 15 agosto, subito dopo la Messa pomeridiana nel
pericolosissimo quartiere meridionale di Dora. Ad oggi non ci sono
ancora sue notizie, si sa solo che =E8 stata avanzata una ingente
richiesta di riscatto.
Questo sequestro segue, dopo neanche un mese, quello di un altro
sacerdote cattolico caldeo, Padre Raad Washan Sawa, liberato il giorno
dopo il rapimento con la minaccia di ucciderlo se non avesse preparato
un riscatto di 200.000 $. Oggi Padre Raad =E8 al sicuro all'estero, ma
non =E8 cos=EC per Padre Saad, ormai da 9 giorni nelle mani dei suoi
sequestratori.
E' di oggi l'appello del Pontefice Benedetto XVI per la liberazione
del sacerdote che segue quello che tutti i capi religiosi cristiani
iracheni, cattolici ed ortodossi, hanno rivolto al governo iracheno con
una lettera indirizzata al Presidente Jalal Talabani ed al Primo
Ministro Nouri al-Maliki.
Padre Saad Sirop =E8 giovane, ha solo 34 anni, a Baghdad =E8 parroco
della chiesa di Saint Jacob e dirige la sezione teologica del Babel
College, l'unica facolt=E0 di insegnamento cristiano in Iraq, ma =E8
anche un po' italiano dato che ha vissuto a Roma per alcuni anni per
motivi di studio e dato che =E8 a Roma che avrebbe dovuto tornare per la
specializzazione.
Il rapimento di Padre Saad =E8 un altro brutto colpo per la comunit=E0
cristiana irachena, e per questa ragione ci associamo agli appelli gi=E0
rivolti ai rapitori:
