Wanni thrust unhindered by terror attacks in south says Military

Military spokesperson Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara says that the cowardly
attempts of LTTE terrorists to halt ongoing military operations in the
North by attacking innocent civilians in the South have failed. Troops
have been able to achieve tremendous success in liberating the Wanni
region from the clutches of terrorism despite the terrorists Endeavour
to reduce the military strength in the battlefront by spreading violence
to South, he added.
Speaking at the weekly media briefing at the Media Centre for National
Security (MCNS), Colombo this morning, Brigadier Nanayakkara revealed
that 475 terrorists were killed and many more injured during the
offensives conducted in Muhamalai, Mannar, Vavuniya and Welioya
battlefronts from 30th January to 12th February. This was against 39
soldiers killed in action and 168 who sustained injuries. Also, the
terrorists have killed 46 innocent civilians and caused injuries to 179
others in several civilian massacres carried out during this period, he
added.
Speaking further, Brigadier Nanayakkara said that the terrorists will
not be able to halt counter terrorists operations in the North by trying
to divert troops to the South. He pointed out that the security forces
could even sustain the offensives in the North while providing security
to Dayatakirula mega exhibition in the South.
