Recently, Roy Isbister, head of arms ex****ts controls at the non-
governmental organization Saferworld, accused the Slovak government of
violating the EU code of conduct arms ex****ts by ex****ting missiles to
Sri Lanka and he went on to say that the danger is that the Sri Lankan
government could used the weapons against civilians. What Mr. Isbister
forgot to mention was that these weapons could also be used against
the world's most dangerous terrorists thus able the Sri Lankan
government to safeguard its community.
In a 2007 interview to asiantribune, the late Minister Jeyaraj
Fernandopulle disclosed that Norway was providing arms and money to
LTTE through Eritrea. He further said it is believed that Norway is
sending arms and ammunition to Eritrea for use by the Eritrean
government but in reality these weapons were loaded from Eritrea into
the LTTE ****ps to be taken to Vann. [The Ethiopian Foreign Minister
Seymour Misfit accused Norway of sup****ting terrorist groups in
Somalia, Eritrea and Sudan. Also, it is no secret that United States
is sup****ting terrorist in Iraq such as Mujahedeen-e-Khalq or MEK.
Isn't it a violation?]
If Saferworld works to prevent armed violence in the world they should
have known that sending weapons from Norway to Eritrea alone has to be
in violation of international laws since Eritrean government has used
child soldiers and violated human rights in their war against Somalia.
What else is there to be said on providing financial assistance and
weapons to the world's most dangerous terrorist organization? Is any
organization monitoring how the terrorists are getting weapons to
destroy innocent civilian lives?
However, Julius Mokos, the director of WAY industry (the Slovak
company which sold the weapons to SL) denied that the deal violated
any laws, and said that the Sri Lankan Government has a right to
defend itself against the Tamil Tigers. "They are the worst terrorists
in the world. We should be asking where the terrorists are getting
their weapons, not where the government is getting them."
As far as we know the UN Security Council's evaluation of the
situation in Sri Lanka has not led Slovakia or any other ally
countries to declare an embargo on arms ****pments to Sri Lanka. Sri
Lanka is a member of the United Nations and has a guaranteed right to
defend itself and protect its own security.
