alternative energy.
A lot of folks don't realize how much further along Germany is than
the U.S. regarding its use of alternative energy and its energy
independence. Or that Germany is leading the way in the creation, set
for later this year, of the International Renewable Energy Agency
(IRENA), which may very well in the mid-term supersede the IEA. A very
exciting development which has gotten practically no press coverage
here in the U.S.
Dr. Hermann Scheer, a member of the German parliament (Bundestag), has
been the driving force behind German energy innovations. He's been at
it for decades and he's got a very clear understanding of the politics
of energy, one that's far more sophisticated than anything to be found
in the U.S. Congress. There's a lot to learn from Dr. Scheer's
example, not least his refusal to take "no" for an answer.
