Liberals call for Howard's Hokey Legacy to be tossed out

by fasgnadh <fasgnadh@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Apr 29, 2008 at 07:40 PM

Citizen****p test 'spooks' would-be Aussies

     - The Age 29/4/2008

"there's been a significant drop in the number of people
applying for Australian citizen****p since the introduction
of a different test six months ago.

The controversial new version with a question about Australian
cricketing hero, Sir Donald Bradman was introduced by the previous
Howard Government, but it will now be reviewed."

      - ABC Radio National 29/4/2008

"Petro Georgiou, the outspoken Liberal backbencher who opposed the
introduction of the test, says it should be dumped altogether.

Liberal backbencher Petro Georgiou has always been opposed to the
citizen****p test.

Now his concerns have been confirmed as the number of new residents
applying for citizen****p has dropped.. because Howard the cricket
tragic thinks everyone should know about who was the top player
    from the 1930's! B^D

"PETRO GEORGIOU: It has turned its back on 60 years of inclusion."

That just about sums up Howard's legacy - causing division and
disunity, pitting one group of Aussies against another, as at
Cronulla, ...the old Roman tactic of political control-
        'divide et empera'

"The Victorian MP broke party lines to oppose the John Howard inspired
test when it was introduced six months ago, and his views haven't
changed."

PETRO GEORGIOU: I'd also like to have a full explanation of why the
questions help integration rather than hinder them."

Especially when a high pro****tion of native born Aussies couldn't
pass, including many Liberal MP's!! B^D

The test has never been made public but questions include:
"What is Australia's national floral emblem?" "Which are the colours
represented on the Australian flag?" and "What is a bill?

PETRO GEORGIOU: My bottom line is that I don't think we can impose a
test that significant numbers of native born English-speaking
Australians cannot pass."

     BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAAA!

Bloody good point. Howard and his ministers were repeatedly
embarrassed when they couldn't answer questions about
Aussie history! B^D Howard's legacy was politically
     motivated HYPOCRISY.

SAMANTHA HAWLEY: But the Government has released figures
showing 95 per cent of would-be citizens are passing."

That would be linked to the number applying having dropped, many
     people won't try:

"Petro Georgio thinks he knows why.

PETRO GEORGIOU: My understanding is that application rates have dropped
quite dramatically so that the people who are applying are the people
who can actually pass the test. The fact is that it has surfaced very,
very quickly and very substantially reduced numbers of people who are
now applying for citizen****p.
