PROMINENT scholar Sheikh Yousuf al-Qaradawi has termed the banning of a
French Muslim child
called Islam from appearing in a French TV programme as an “act of
discrimination”.
Qaradawi, who was delivering his Friday sermon at the Omar bin al-Khattab
mosque at Khalifa
Town, said that exclusion of the nine-year old will have a bad impact on
his feelings.
“The child told his friends that he would participate in a TV show. But he
was shocked when he
was asked either to use a different name rather than Islam or be excluded
from the programme.
This is clear discrimination against the child by the Western media which
keep branding Muslims
as racists and terrorists,” he said.
On the Jewish rabbis from the anti-Zionist movement Neturei Karta who
visited him last week, he
said “Muslims had no problems at all” with Jews.
“Our main problem is with the Zionists who sup****t Israel’s aggressive
policies and encroach on
the rights of the Palestinian people,” he said.
“I am not against Jews. I am only against Zionist expansionism. In terms
of Shariah, Jews are
closer to Muslims than Christians.
“Even from the ethnic viewpoint, Arabs and Jews are cousins. They are sons
of Jacob and we are
sons of Ishmael and both are Abrahamic religions. We are even asked by the
Qur’an to have
dialogue with the People of the Book including Jews and Christians,”
Qaradawi said.
